Mingo Falls is one of the attractions that is within walking distance of the Cherokee KOA campground.  Our friends Terry and Ed made this excursion and Terry took this picture, plus many more.  We thought that we would include some of their pictures to give you a better insight into the area. Mingo Falls is located on the Cherokee Indian Reservation (Qualla Boundary), just outside Great Smoky Mountains National Park, in Cherokee, NC.  The hike to the waterfall (considered to be moderate in difficulty) is only 0.4 mile, but heads up about 150 stairs, levels off and ends at a small wooden bridge that crosses Mingo Creek in front of the falls.  At 120 feet tall, the waterfall is one of the tallest and most spectacular in the southern Appalachians.  The best time to visit the waterfall is after some heavy rains.
