You can see that Joan found quite a variety of gems, including some
rather large ones (Joan is holding her cellphone so that you can get a
visual size comparison). We know that the gem mines in the area
are "seeded" with gems so that they can stay in business. That
explains the piece of a geode (on the left side of the table, third
from the bottom) that turned up in this bag of dirt. Joan's finds
include some Rose Quartz, Quartz, Emeralds, Amethysts, Pyrite (fool's
gold), and other interesting items.
