Day 43. The approach to the town of Deadwood through the motor
home windshield. For those who may be interested, the Deadwood
has about 85 casinos. There are a couple of gold mines in town as
well. It was about 129 years ago when frontier prospectors hit a
fabulously rich gold strike in Deadwood Gulch, Dakota Territory.
That's how Deadwood and Lead were born, out of the frenzy of a national
gold rush. The shooting of Wild Bill Hickok and Trial of Jack
McCall (the man who shot Hickok) are reenacted during the summer
months. The resting place of Wild Bill Hickok, Calamity Jane,
Potato Creek Johnny, and Madam Dora DuFran is here in Deadwood, in one
of the West's original "Boot Hills".
